Peter Beasecker was born in Toledo, Ohio and received a BS degree from Miami University and his MFA from Alfred University. He has been recognized for many years as a maker of quiet, elegant pots reflecting a studied and haptic sensibility. After establishing his voice almost exclusively with porcelain, he has recently concentrated this material’s use to a simple cup. By gathering the cups in “carriers” made of dark stoneware, Beasecker draws attention to the needs and affections of a community of users.
Since joining the faculty of the Division of Art at the Meadows School of the Arts in 1992, Beasecker has received numerous distinctions, most recently, SMU’s Ford Research Fellowship in 2004. He has exhibited extensively in national and international venues, and his work is included in the collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, The Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the Mint Museum in North Carolina. He has been a visiting artist and workshop leader at over fifty institutions, including Anderson Ranch, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Penland School of Crafts. Beasecker maintains a studio in Dallas, Texas and Geene, New York.
